About Lark Morrigan

Welcome to my little home (er…bird’s nest) on Medium!

I work in math education by day (remotely because of the pandemic), so that means I do not write full-time. As a writer, I’m currently in the stage where I’m just trying to put myself out there, overcome debilitating resistance, prove to myself that I can write, and become a better poet and writer than I was when I started out — nothing more but certainly nothing less. Sometimes you’ll find a few mental health and personal growth articles because they can be practical in navigating struggles like resistance, self-doubt, and fear of not living up to your potential, but my heart lies within more poetic, artistic writing, so you’ll see more of that here.

But who am I really? That’s something I can’t exactly define or am crystal clear about 100% of the time, which is why I find value in personal writings — the act of writing out anything I’m feeling and processing in the moment and turning abstract thoughts and images into words that resonate with readers in order to make them feel like someone out there gets what they are going through. It can help to know more about who you are and identify what you want to become.

You’ll notice I write a lot about self-worth and am pretty open about inner tension, neuroticism, and the desire to be more than what naysayers have said I could ever amount to. I’m not afraid to delve deeper into darker emotions because I find that articulating them is far more conducive to personal growth than simply repressing them or pretending that their existence doesn’t affect me.

I find that reading other people’s personal essays helps me make sense of my own struggles, so I hope to do the same for readers.

Where else can you find me besides Medium?

  • Twitter (I’m more active on here, and you’ll see a side of me that doesn’t appear in my writings, but hopefully you find it at least mildly entertaining)
  • Instagram (I’m not very active on here. I mainly started it to post Instapoetry, but I may just use it for random photos from my personal life — but not too personal obviously)
  • Goodreads (I have an author page)

Current News (Updated October 30, 2020)

Professionally, I’m:

  • Teaching mathematics differently from the way it’s taught in public schools.
  • Working on my fourth book!
  • Working on an album, which is going slowly, but I am perfectionistic with the way lyrics are written.
  • Committing to publishing a piece on here at least five times per week (though I’d very much prefer to do more than that whenever I can).

Personally, I’m:

  • Organizing, organizing, organizing (I am revamping my entire organizational structure, down to the very last minute detail, which is taking a lot of thought and reflection, but I know I will become more efficient after it’s done).
  • Re-reading Juliet Marillier’s Celtic fantasy novels.
  • Listening to John Denver, classic rock, Celtic, and epic music.
  • Trying to do more sketches.
  • Pinpointing what exactly makes me anxious and why.
